George DAGNALL

32, Derby Street, Prescot

AM2, Royal Air Force

George was the elder brother of William Dagnall

He was born on 22nd July 1897 in Prescot, the son of Thomas and Catherine Dagnall. At the time of the 1911 census, he was employed at the Wire Works as a Cotton Braider.

George joined the Royal Navy on 23rd February 1918, signing on for four years. However, he served only for a few weeks before being discharged on 31st March 1918. He then transferred to the newly formed Royal Air Force.

Working as an Instrument Repairer and Air Mechanic, He remained in the UK for training and then went to France on 14th April 1918, staying there for the remainder of the war. He retuened to the UK on 26th August 1919 and was transferred to the reserve on 2nd March 1933 then finally discharged on 22nd February 1926.

I believe that he may have gone to live in Manchester after the war and have no further information on him.

The 1939 National register listed George at Wynford Street, Salford. Married to Beatrice and employed as a Flour Warehouseman

(Additional research, John Yates)

Ref. No.: A1578
