George UNDERWOOD


20, Sutherland Road, Prescot

Private 22056, 13th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment

George was a 28 year old married man when he attested on 14th October 1915 in Prescot. He had married Margaret Harrison on 19th June 1899 in Huyton, and they had children John (20th February 1901), Doris (6th January 1903), James (21st August 1905), Gertrude (12th August 1907), Mary (22nd May 1909), George (4th June 1910?) and Joseph (13th March 1915). He was employed as a Collier.

George was transferred to the Manchester Regiment on 20th December 1915, with a further posting to the Garrison Battalion of that Regiment on 8th January 1916. Shortly after that, on 26th January 1916, he was discharged as being 'unlikely to become an efficient soldier'.

He had not served overseas and had no medal entitlement.

George died in Liverpool in 1949, aged 64.
