Eccleston Park, Prescot Chaplain 4th Class, Royal Army Chaplain’s Department John Wallace Gleave was the elder brother of Thomas Reginald Gleave. He was the son of John and Margaret Gleave and was baptised at Haresfinch on 27th November 1899.

The London Gazette of 13th March 1916 reported Revd J W Gleave's appointment to the Army Chaplain's Department.
He served in Egypt, arriving there on 25th April 1918, and this service entitled him to the British War Medal and Victory Medal. His commission was relinquished on 29th May 1920.

On 7th December 1921, at the age of 32, John Gleave married Dorothy Littelfair Green (29) at Parbold. One of their children, John (b. 1925) went on to become a consultant neurosurgeon at Addenbrook's Hospital in Cambridge.
