In the 1901 Census, he as aged 5 and lived with his parents Richard (38), Ellen (36) and siblings Jane (9) and John (4) at Court 1, Victoria Place, Prescot
The 1911 Census listed him, aged 15, as a Yard Labourer and living with his widowed father Richard (49) and siblings Jane (19), John (14) and Richard (7) at 1 No 2 Court, Victoria Place, Prescot
William was a 19 year old Wire Drawer at the Wire Works when he attested for military service at St Helens on 19th May 1915. He gave his sister, Ellen, of the above address as his next of kin. On 22nd September he was posted to the 13th Bn of the South Lancs and then on 12th February 1916 he was transferred to the Manchester Regiment.
A few weeks later, he was classed as no longer fit for military service due to being of a nervous debility and was discharged. He did not serve overseas and had no medal entitlement. His address on discharge was given as 6, Victoria Place, Prescot.
William died in Prescot in 1969, aged 73 Ref. No.:
