Edward FOWLER

16, Derby Square, Prescot

Pte 2858, 5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment

After attesting for four years service with the Territorials in Prescot on 19th September 1914, Edward, aged 19, failed his medical in St Helens on 14th October and was discharged. He had served for just 26 days. He recorded his father, Thomas, of the same address as his next of kin.

The 1911 census showed the family at the same address, comprising Thomas (58) and his wife Annie (50). Their sons William (20) and Edward (17, a House Painter) lived with them. The census also showed that Thomas and Annie had been married for 29 years in which they had 6 children, though three of them had died.
