George attested to the Territorial Service in St Helens on 27th May 1908. He had previously served with the Royal Artillery and South Lancashire Regiment. His wife Annie, of the same address, was listed as his next of kin.
He was called up for full time service on 5th August 1914. Transferred around various units within the RE, he eventually went overseas on 1st January 1915. He was wounded on 1st May 1915 and returned to the UK for treatment, before returning to France on 1st October 1916.
He was renumbered in March 1917 to 426261 and was finally discharged as being no longer physically fit for service on 6th February 1918.
George was entitled to the British War Medal, Victory Medal and Silver War Badge.
