5 Station Rd, Prescot SQMS S/ 290746, Inland Water Transport, Royal Army Service Corps 28 Year old Joseph Lawrenson worked as a Chartered Accountant's Clerk and Estate Agent when he attested for military service on 30th August 1916 at St Helens. He had married Jasmine Dickie at the Wesleyan Chapel in Prescot on 9th September 1914. She lived in Leyland Street and worked as a Dressmaker.
Initially assigned to the Army Reserve, Joseph was mobilised on 1st February 1917 and went to France with his unit on 19th March that year.
Joseph was promoted to Corporal on 12th July 1918 and the Sergeant on 8th October 1918.
He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal in addition to the British War Medal and Victory Medal. He was finally demobilised on 28th November 1919.
