16, Eccleston Street, Prescot Private 3384, 2nd/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Born in Prescot on 18th March 1896, Thomas attested to the South Lancs on 10th November 1914 at St Helens. His father, James Lyon, of Peartree Cottage, Garden Walk, was listed as next of kin.
Thomas didn't sail to France until the 14th February 1917 and around this time he was renumbered to 241191.
He returned to the UK from France on 28th April 1918 suffering from Trench Fever, which hospitalised him until 18th June. He remained in the UK until he was demobilised on 24th January 1919. Then on 17th August 1921 he re-enlisted in the army, joining the Royal Corps of Signals as Private 2555512.
He was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
In his re-enlistment, which was for a period of one year, Thomas noted that he worked as a Fitter's Mate and that he was still single.
He remained in the army until 23rd August 1923.
