3, Squires Place, Prescot Pte 2058, 1/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Edmond was aged 34 when he attested for military service in St Helens on 5th August 1914, the day after the outbreak of war. His next of kin was his father, William, of the same address.
He sailed for France with the Battalion on 12th February 1915 and was appointed Lance Corporal on 15th March , then promoted to full Corporal on 18th May that year. He had returned to the UK three days previously.
Edmond was discharged on 14th February 1916 as being no longer physically fit for military service. He was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal, and the Silver War Badge.
