24, Rowson Street, Prescot Pte 2879, 5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment Glyn Williams was an 11 year old scholar in the 1911 census, the youngest child of Peter and Elizabeth Williams of Rowson Street, Prescot.
He attested to the South Lancashire Regiment in Prescot on 21st September 1914. He gave his age as 18 when it appears that he can't have been much older than 14 or 15. He recorded his occupation as 'Labourer' and was included in the Reporter list of men serving, produced in May 1915. On 29th January 1916, Glyn was appointed to the paid rank of Lance Corporal, which he retained until 2nd March that year.
Glyn appears to have been a little short on discipline and his record is full of minor charges like talking on parade, sleeping when he should have been on parade, etc.
He remained with the battalion until 30th September 1916 when he was discharged as no longer being physically fit for service.
Glyn did not see overseas service and had no medal entitlement.
