David COWEN

2, North Court, High Street, Prescot

Private 3760, 2/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment.

In the 1911 census, David Cowen lived at 7, Parkers Court, Kemble Street, Prescot with his wife Mary and their six children. A native of Cumberland, he stated that he was 36 years old and worked as a Coal Miner,

David attested to the army on 14th May 1915 at St Helens, and gave his age as 37, which clearly suggests the he was lying when compared to the 1911 census. He stated his wife Mary as his next of kin.

However, he was not deemed fit enough for military service and was discharged on 12th October 1915
