2 Hope Street, Prescot Sapper 8687 (later 430315), West Lancs Division, Royal Engineers Born in 1896, David was the third son of Thomas and Margaret Corns of the above address. The 1911 census listed him as a Joiner's Apprentice.
He was 19 when he joined the Royal Engineers on 14th September 1915 in St Helens, his trade being that of a Joiner. His next of kin was his mother, Maggie Corns, at the same address.
He went to France in February 1917 and had a period in hospital in July 1917 and another in July 1918, but the reasons for both are unknown.
David was demobilised on 28th March 1919 and was entitled to the British War Medal and Victory Medal.
The 1939 National register, shown below, recorded David living in Cross Street, Prescot, where he was employed as a Joiner
