1, New Cross Street, Prescot Private 7695, Royal Marines Light Infantry Forrest Cokayne was born in Poplar, London, on 11th May 1878, the son of Mary and henry Cokayne
On 12th October 1895, he enlisted as a Private in the Royal Marines Light Infantry. He was emplopyed as a Tramways Inspector at the time. He served through the Boer War in South Africa, for which he was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal.
The 1911 census showed Forrest (though using the name Frank) living at 44, Bickerstaffe Street, St Helens, with a recorded occupation of Tramway Motor Man
He married Mary Hall in Prescot in late 1911.
He reenlisted as Private 17100 on 7th September 1914, and served on several ships before being discharged in 1919. He service entitled him to the British War Medal and Victory Medal. Private Cokayne's name was included in the Prescot Reporter list of men serving with the colours, which was published in May of 1915.
The 1939 National Register listed Forrest and his wife, Mary, at 18 Cross Street, Prescot. Forrest recorded his employment as a Road Transport Traffic Superintendent. (image shown below)
In 1941, he was married for a second time. His wife was Nellie Roberts and the marriage took place in St Helens.
Forrest died in St Helens in on 18th November 1952, aged 74. At the time he lived at 71, Rivington Road, St Helens.
