The Reporter extract telling of Frederick Thompson being wounded shows him to be from Prescot, but all the information I can find on him suggests that he lived in Rainhill. His records with the Royal Naval Division (RND) show the above address.
Born on 24th March 1896, he was the son of Frederick Charles and Ellen Thompson. His father was the General Relieving Officer for the local Board of Guardians.
His initial service was as Lance Corporal 250440 with the 2/1 Battalion of the Lancashire Hussars, enlisting on 7th September 1914. On 16th June 1917 he joined the 2nd Reserve Battalion of the Royal Naval Division. He proceeded overseas with the RND leaving Folkstone on 5th July 1917 and arriving at Bolougne the following day, joining his Battalion on 1st September 1917.
On 6th November 1917 he was admitted to the St John Ambulance Brigade Hospital at Etaples. Within two days, he was in the 1st Southern General Hospital at Birmingham, and this shows he was suffering from Trench Feet.
He appears to have been back with his unit by March 1918, when his papers show him to be at Kilworth in County Cork. He remained in Ireland until 4th February 1919 when he proceeded to the dispersal centre at Heaton Park and was demobilised.
