18 Hope Street, Prescot Private 3206 (later 241070), 1st/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment He attended Prescot Grammar School, starting there in 1901.
In the 1911 census, Peter and his wife Margaret (nee Hunt), both aged 23, are shown at the Hope Street address. They had been married for less than a year, and Peter was working as a Capstan Machinist at the Wore Works.
Peter was included in the list of Prescot men serving the colours which was published in the Prescot Reporter in 1915. He joined up on 9th November 1914, aged 26, giving his wife Margaret as his next of kin and recording that he worked as a Toolmaker.
In October 1916 he was appointed Lance Corporal. He sailed for France on 17th February 1917 and was promoted to Lance Sergeant in October 1917.
He returned to the UK in November 1917. He then spent some time in hospital in Blackpool, suffering from Nephritis, and was posted back to France on 24th October 1918, remaining there until 28th April 1919.
Peter left the army on 27th May 1919 at which time he gave his address as 102, Blundells Lane, Rainhill. He was entitled to the British War medal and Victory Medal.
Peter and Margaret had four children; Margaret (1916), John (1920), Gilbert (1924) and Joyce (1928).
Peter died in Prescot in 1945, aged 57. Ref. No.:
