James William LOWE

"The Meads" Portico, Prescot

Driver 1417, Army Service Corps

20 year old James Lowe recorded that he was single and that he worked as a “Cow Man” when he attested for military service on 18th January 1916 at St Helens Town Hall. His next of kin was listed as his mother, Alice Lowe, of Crank.

Although his service number isn’t clear, it is known that he served with the Welsh Regiment and Monmouthshire Regiment and then on 8th August 1918 he was transferred to the Army Service Corps where he trained as a Driver (probably of Mules!)..

He remained in the UK until 18th November 1918, when he left Dover and sailed for Calais, arriving there the following day.

James returned to the UK on 12th September 1919 and was finally demobilised on 10th October 1919.
