Moses TYSON

Address Not Known

Pte 1751, 1/5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment

The first entry found for Moses Tyson is the 1911 census which shows him living at Bleak Hill, Windle, St Helens. It is assumed that sometime after that, he moved to Prescot as he was shown in the Prescot Reporter list of men serving which was published in May 1915.

The 1911 census shows that he was born around 1882 in Aldingham, Lancashire, and that he had been married to his wife, Elizabethj, for 9 years. They had two children; Robert, born in Burnley in 1906, and Martha, born in Tuxford, Notts, in 1909. Moses was listed as a Waggoner on a Farm.

Moses service number, 1751, was issued to the Territorial Battalion in late 1912 or early 1915, and on the outbreak of war he will have been called up for full time service. He sailed for France with the rest of the Battalion on 12th February 1915.

He was still with the Battalion as late as March 1917, when he was renumbered to 240221 and than at some point after this hew was transferred to the Labour Corps as Private 458732 before he was finally discharged as being no longer physically fit for Military service on 11th October 1919.

He was entitled to the Silver War Badge, 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.
