Charles H HAND


19 Bretherton Road, Prescot

Pte 1886, 5th Bn., South Lancashire Regiment

(Later 240293)

Born 1898 in Middlesex, in 1911, Charles was living at 19 Bretherton Road, Prescot, where his widowed mother Elizabeth (46) was employed as a Servant to the Fisher brothers.

He enlisted with the South Lancashire Regiment in mid-1913 and was fully embodied with them on the outbreak of war. He sailed for France on 13th February 1915, and was included in the Reporter list of Prescot men serving with the colours in May of that year.

Nothing is known of his service during the war, but he was finally discharged on 29th May 1919 and was entitled to the 1915 Star, British War Medal and Victory Medal.

Charles married Mary Hesketh in Prescot in 1921 and died in Prescot 1957, aged 59
