I am indebted to Trevor Powell, of “The Prescotian” for supplying much of the following information.
The War Memorial was affixed to the wall of the north corridor and was unveiled and dedicated on October 12th 1924 in the presence of a large and representative gathering which included the Chairman and members of Prescot Urban District Council, Governors of the School, the Headmaster and Staff, and many old boys and friends.
After a preliminary service presided over by Councillor J. P. Preston, the unveiling ceremony was performed by S.M. Green, Esq., M.R.C.S., L.R.C.P., who said, “In grateful recognition of the sacrifice they made, I now unveil this memorial in hallowed remembrance of the Old Boys ofPrescot Grammar School who laid down their lives in the Great War.”
The tablet, which was made of oak, and measured about four feet square, was designed by the late Mr. W. B. Fletcher, a former pupil of the school.
The unveiling ceremony was followed by a service of dedication, conducted by the Vicar of Prescot, Canon J. P. W. Lovett.

More information on the Grammar School Memorial and the school itself can be found on Trevor’s website www.prescotian.info
Unfortunately, the memorial plaque was lost in the fire which severely damaged the school in 1978.
A replacement Roll of Honour is now located in the entrance hall of Prescot School in Knowsley Park Lane. This memorial is bronze mounted on a wooden background. It records the name of 20 casualties of the First World War and a further 44 from the Second World War, however research into the memoprials has shown that here are some discrepancies between the names shown on the opriginal memorial and those on the replacement. The school have been informed of these differences and of the fact that the names on the original memorial are correct.
Above the list of names, the Main plaque reads:-
Prescot Grammar School
Founded 1544

Below the names is the inscription:-

We Will Remember Them
On a small plaque below the main plaque is an inscription:-
