Rood Screens are a method used in churches to divide the chancel from the nave. In Prescot Parish Church, the present Rood Screen dates from 1921 as a memorial to the parishioners of the church who had fallen in the war. Many, but by no means all, of the names are also included on the Civic Memorial.
The screen comprises 8 oak panels listing the names of those commemorated and cost £941 1s 4d, which was raised by public subscription and church collections. It was unveiled by the Bishop of Liverpool on April 23rd, 1921.The screen was gilded in 1965 and stained black, with further gilding in 1998.
